In this pre-existing long but narrow space along a sidewalk, the soil was low in nutrients and contained gravel. The homeowner struggled to find plants that would grow there. We designed a community of plant species (mostly from various shortgrass and otherwise xeric prairies) that thrive in these harsh conditions, and the homeowner planted the project (with guidance and FaceTime consults with us) during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
